About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's not worried about what's going on in the factory. He's just been there for a week, and he thinks it's a good thing he went because he was able to invent some new stuff. The narrator says he'll be using his ice-burst stove tonight to cook a hot meal for his parents. He says he doesn't know what the future holds, but he hopes they'll like it. He wonders what the military police are doing at the factory, since they've been sent there to quell the rioting. He also wonders if they're holding the engineers hostage. He wants to go back to the factory to rejoin the engineers. He can't get out of the carriage because the gate is open, and they have to run to the inner gate to get there. He hears a "whole wave of screams" coming from the factory gate. He thinks it must be because the engineers are fighting the "monsters" . He tells the crowd to get away from him.
