About This Chapter
The captain of the corps welcomes Alek back to Shmiganshina. He tells Alek that he's been training him to be a soldier, and that Alek's father wants him to join the corps. Alek says that he doesn't know what to expect, since he hasn't seen him in a while. The captain says that Alek is the one who's bearing the "blood" of the "great hero" , and Alek is jealous that he has a companion like Krooklo. Alek thanks the captain for welcoming him back, and the captain promises to feed him in no time. Alek tells the captain that since the previous expedition, more people have asked to be transferred to the corps, and they don't trust the future. He says that if they stop now, those who've already given up their lives won't be able to see their sacrifices pay off. Alek and his father return to the camp.
