In this chapter, Roxane explains that she and her companions have run into an old acquaintance of hers, a man named "angel." He is a leader of a band of thugs who like to think that they hold territory in the area around the city. Roxane tells Roxane that she ran into him and that he was going to return to his workshop. She tells him that they need help from the "original designer" of the city's walls, who can understand the structure better than anyone else. She explains that they are trapped inside a cage and need to find a way to escape. She asks Roxane to take her coat so that she can hear her escape.
