About This Chapter
The next morning, the soldiers of the Survey corps hear a thin murmur, which they interpret to mean that they are about to be attacked by a nearby army. The soldiers wonder if they have seen any of the "titans" and wonder why they are avoiding a fight. They also wonder if the "survey corps" is avoiding a battle because it is so long since they last fought. They wonder if it is because they do not want to risk a battle with any of their own soldiers. When they hear a "green smoke" coming from the distance, they wonder why the man who fired the flare fired it. He replies that he fired it for the purpose of seeing a titan. He then asks if the man's purpose is to compare him to the other soldiers. The man replies that his only purpose in firing the flare was to see a Titan do no harm. When he hears footsteps again, he wonders if the footsteps are coming from a direction that leads to the wall.
