It's dawn, and Shmoop and Krook are outside looking at the wall. They're worried about what's going to happen to them now that they've been separated from their family. Krook is worried about his right eye, which he's been bleeding from since he was shot in the leg. He's worried that the military police are going to be looking for them, too, since his brother is supposed to be a soldier. He thanks Krook for feeding him, and says he'll get a fresh bandage on his eye. He wonders if his brother joined the army like his brother did, and wonders if he'd be able to forgive him if he joined the military like his father did. He also wonders if it's true that the army's new commander, carlo, is from the same family as Krook's father, and that's why they're blocking the main street in front of the family's house. He tells Krook that he can't believe that humanity will ever fall to the family that was supposed to protect him from the monster. He says that the rumors said that his father never saw him as anything but a tool for the family to extend its power. He adds that he was glad that he didn't get caught up in the wall, because it was like a festival. He asks Krook if they should move, and he says they should. They hear the sound of cannons going off, and they wonder if the army is looking for anyone. They decide to go to see the titans.
