About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, an instructor named Jorge. Jorge tells us that he has just arrived at the training camp and that he does not plan to return to the corps immediately. He asks Jorge when he will be returning to the camp, and Jorge assures him that he will. He tells Jorge that he loves the people he knows, and that at first he was frightened by their hostility, but as he began to see the other emotions in the world, he realized that they were emotions of families, lovers, and friends. He says that he had no power to control these emotions, but that he learned to speak, write, and understand the world through the lessons he had received from the instructors at the camp.
