In this short scene, we are introduced to a number of the characters who will be introduced later in the play. The first person introduced is Cressida, who is the queen's maid. She tells us that she has come to see Cressida because she has heard about her husband's infidelity. Cressida asks why the king has not punished her husband for his infidelity, and the king replies that Cressida is a candidate to be queen and should be expelled from the ladies' quarters.
