About This Chapter
In this short scene, the cat and the seabeast discuss the fate of the sea-beast, which they call the dependent beast. The seabeast tells the cat that he is too tender for her to eat his fish, and the cat meows, saying that his master is too quick to be there. The cat asks his master if he is the one who ruled the old harbor, and his master replies that he was, and that he will let her go. The stage girl kneels before the cat as a salutation, and he says that she is just a mere soul. He tells her that she should apologize to him for her rudeness, and then he tells her to use her sound of nature as a means to destroy the people who insulted her. He says that the sea is full of life, birds fly, schools of fish thrive, and there is no soul lost in the sea. He concludes by saying that the soul is always lost in a long sailing line, as he sleeps in the deep water.
