He says that he still misses her, but that she is not like the "delicious swan meat" that he used to eat when he was a young man. He asks her if she is worried about something, and she says that she was thinking about someone else. He tells her to lie to him, because he recognizes the look on her brother's face when he thinks of him, and he says that if he tells a lie, his soul will burn with "magical flames." He tells his brother that he was thinking of his companion, and his brother tells him to be careful with guys like him. Barossa says that her companion is a woman, and the narrator says that this must mean that she must be close to him
