In this chapter, Cai tells us that he's been sent to work at the military school, where he'll have to fix a bunch of damaged machinery. He's super impressed with how hard Cai is working, even though he only arrived a few days ago. He thinks it's shameful that Cai should be leaving, especially since Cai never told Cai not to be so hasty. Cai also tells us about a weird old man at the school, who's not a soldier, but a professor. After the war, there weren't any students who could repair the machinery in burn-the-experiment, so they sent the old man to the front to complain. Cai thinks he should try to make the boss happy, since Cai is such a workaholic, but he knows that there's still an even more tricky person to help.
