They lack funding, their ships are old, and their training is insufficient. The general says that even if they only have one city left, one soldier left, they have to fight until the end. The people of the planet need a hero, and the union will give them a hero. The fatso tells us he's already wanted to join the army from the start, but now that the battle is so close, he doesn't want to enlist. He wants to find something useful if he can survive. He finds some individual grenades, a large compressed energy cube, and a replacement cannon.
