The scene opens in Hiroshi's apartment, where Hiroshi and Samejima are having dinner. Hiroshi is happy to be home, and he and his wife are excited to see each other again. They are both excited to be back in the city, and Hiroshi tells his wife that he will be late for work, so they will have to eat alone together. He tells her that he has been thinking about her lately, and that she has told him that he should try her miso soup, which he has heard about from his brother. He says that he wants to recreate the taste of the miso soup for her, so he asks her to make it one of their regular meals. She says that she will, and they will make it with chocolate instead of salt and sugar. She tells him that they can have it on the weekend, when they will be able to be in charge of the house. He asks her if she would like to put her stockings on the side of the laundry so that they will not get caught in the laundry while she is cleaning up. She declines, saying that she wants to get a bath while she cleans up, but she declines his offer.
