The scene opens with a soliloquy by Edgar Allan Poe, in which he declares that he will embrace all of Edgar's company even if they resist him. He says that it may be the director's second time with him, but that they never did it the first time. He promises to remember his first time with the director when he is able to remember that he was with a woman who had passed out during their first sexual encounter. He also says that he is certain that Edgar will be able to recall his first sexual experience with him when they are able to "remember my first time" together. He then says, "I feel like I am going to melt" . He feels that he has been thrust into the presence of the director and that he wants to "search even deeper inside" of the man. He wants to feel as if he is "grasping harder and harder" , as though he is grabbing onto the man's shoulders.
