After the battle, the parasite population in the U.S. has almost completely disappeared, but there are still parasites everywhere. The two men are glad that they survived the fight, but they're not sure how they'll survive the next time they see each other. They're both going to be dead soon, but neither of them is going to die anytime soon. One year later, they still see one another, but no one has been killed by a parasite. They don't even know each other's names anymore, and they've never fought together. They can't figure out what's going on, but it's clear that the two of them are the same thing.
