About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named "Muffin" . He is a kind of companion animal to the protagonist, i.e., the protagonist's companion. Muffin tells the protagonist that he has been eating his right hand the whole time, and that he will continue to do so until the protagonist is dead. The protagonist, however, is not satisfied with this treatment, and he begins to complain about the way that the protagonist treats him. He tells the narrator that he wishes he were a human, but that he would not be able to transform himself into a dog. He also tells the story of how, when he was a child, he used to play with the dog, but when he grew up, he realized that the dog was not the same as he was, and so he stopped playing with it. He says that he is not sure if the dog has changed in the last few months, but he is sure that it has not. He adds that he was getting used to the idea of the dog as a companion, and now that it is eating him, he is afraid that it will kill him.
