About This Chapter
In a soliloquy, Alita laments the fact that ido has been "getting away" with "a whole lot of eating peoples brains" . She says that she still doesn't understand the meaning of life, and that someday she'll want to know what it is like to be alive. She compares herself to the "king of worms" , and says that he's as pure and beautiful as a knife . Alita says she's tired of hearing the "gross" voice of ido, and she threatens to "rip that disgusting longtongue out of his throat." Alita tells Alita that her body was built by humans, so why does he take this "monstrous form" ? He says that his injuries got infected, and his body essentially rotted away. He promises to give Alita a new body, just like the one ido gave him, and he'll show her the desire within her heart so that she can make it her own.
