This chapter opens with a description of the rumble of a vehicle. It's a Japanese tank, and it's been stolen. The narrator tells us that the rumble is a sign that someone is inside the vehicle, but he doesn't know who it is. He's worried that someone has stolen the tank, or that someone else has taken it. He tells us to check out the other four Japanese companies that might be involved in the theft of the tank. He also says that the man who signed the tank is a co-worker of one of the other companies, and that he's going to tell the boss about the theft. He says that both he and his friend, Hirokazu, have been sick ever since they were cyberized, and they're worried that they'll die if they don't find a way to get back to the U.S.
