This chapter opens with a description of a mysterious woman wearing a strange outfit. She is reported to possess "extraordinary powers" . The woman asks to be left alone, but the narrator tells her to wait a while. She asks the narrator to take a look at a photograph of her. The photo was taken thirty years ago. The narrator tells the woman that the photo is of his parents. He explains that he keeps the photo because he finds it very interesting. If no one saves his parents, he says, she will be pushed back in time. He says that he collected all the information from the photo, but that it was cut from the newspaper. He wonders when the newspaper was last seen, and wonders if it was the eve of the new world.
