In this chapter, we learn that the school isn't just famous for being a place to learn how to be a wizard. It's also famous because it's a place where students can learn to "fight for world peace" . This is a school that teaches people to "solve supernaturally in a sense" , and that's why they're there in the first place. The teacher interrupts this soliloquy to tell us that she's got a problem with the students' practical assessment . The two students, Carla and Shane, will be unable to pass the exam because they've been snubbed by the other students. Carla is prettier than anyone else in the class, the teacher tells us, and she and her friend are the "most outstanding twin stars" in the new class. The other students, however, aren't being snubbed at all. They're being teased because they are "partners among the newcomers." The teacher tells the students to be quiet and not to be rude to Carla or Shane. She also tells them that they can exchange the exam for a different assignment from the one they were assigned. The students are all excited to do the exam, but the teacher refuses to let them do it. She tells them to go to the midnight school library and look for the exam in it.
