At the beginning of the chapter, we are told that the situation at the academy has gotten out of hand, and that the witch is using the academy as a way to get her revenge. The witch tells us that the academy is being used as an example of how the witch can use the academy to her own ends. She also tells the audience that she has been feeling empty lately, and when she first saw Miss Carla, she took a liking towards her. She asks the witch what she thinks of her eldest son, and the witch tells her that he is handsome, charming, and would be a good match for Miss Carlad. She tells the crowd that she did not ask the witch to come and listen to her opinion, but that she is glad to have him back. She invites the other witches to come with her to look at the situation.
