The narrator is annoyed that the judge has charged him with using a forbidden skill, and that she has called him a witch. He tells the judge that he can control the witch's scent and that he will agree to let the two of them go if the judge will let them go. The narrator asks if they are getting used to brooms, and the judge tells him that they are. He asks if there is no way for them to control the scent, and he tells them that brooms fly and that they still have to deal with the sleepy-head. The two men meet again, and they decide to perform the ritual at the spot where the last red witch appeared a hundred years before. They form a circle and burn the door, which is the door that the red witch used to enter the city.
