In this chapter, we are introduced to a young woman named Guizhou, who is the daughter of a wealthy family. Guizhou's parents work in Africa and have left their son with a trust fund and an old butler. The old butler has been a dear friend to Guizhou since he was a young boy, and he has returned to his hometown to take care of Guizhou. The young woman, however, feels suffocated by her father's love for Guizhou and wishes that she were dead.
