About This Chapter
Berich and Cai Ming arrive at the restaurant where Cai Ming has been dining. Cai Ming asks Berich if he has had lunch with Cai Ming, and Berich tells him that Cai Ming already planned to go on a date with Gui Ming. When Cai Ming tells Berich that the restaurant is a "couples' only" restaurant, Berich refuses to go in, saying that he will not let anyone else have the honor to do so. He then asks Cai Ming to show him the menu, which Cai Ming does not want to see. He is disappointed to find that the menu contains only a limited number of dishes, and that the dishes are not very fancy. He wonders how Cai Ming could go to such an extent to dress himself up in such a way to get his attention, and then asks if he is eating grass, which he finds "kind of pitiful." Cai Ming replies that the foie gras that they ordered was the most pitiful thing on the menu. The foie gras is a delicacy that wealthy and powerful people eat, but it is actually a cruel piece of meat that farmers torture the geese with iron tubes to obtain the fat. After the geese die, the livers are plated in luxurious restaurants, and they are considered delicacies by the public. When Berich asks why Cai Ming is not eating the dish anymore, Cai Ming says that it is a waste of money to not finish such a dish, and he then tells Cai Ming that he is better at talking than he is at reading poetry.
