This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the "ugly woman" of the harem, who tells her sister-in-law that she's too old to be her husband's wife anymore. She's three years older, she says, and she wants to hug her. She wants to know why her husband is so adorable, and why he's such a good husband. She also wants to ask why her sister is so drunk, and how she'll be happier if she doesn't have to drink anymore
