In this chapter, we learn that the ugly woman is a prostitute. She has come to see the city lord, but the lord does not recognize her. She tells him that she has been out of her mind during the hot spring, and that she is infatuated with the man. The city lord tells her that he has cared for the healer, and has even gone to his house to visit the hot springs. He says that he will take care of the healer when the woman stays overnight at his house. He promises to do so, and the woman begs him to let her sleep with him in his room so that they can have a good chat. He refuses, saying that he is afraid she will get a nosebleed if she sleeps with him. The woman tells him to go to her room and cool her down, and he agrees. She asks him to take her home, but he says that she should not have climbed through the window. He is her husband, he says, and she should have come through the door. She says that the two of them like each other, but that the reality is that they are not married. He tells her to let go of him, or he will get her into trouble.
