In this chapter, we are introduced to the "ugly woman" of spring, the "top courtesan" of "spring breeze pavilion" , and the "lord" of the "peacock pavilion of mysteries" . We learn that he is a "courtesan of mystery" and that he has "the end of the line of esteemed figures" who need his help. He tells us that he wants to be the "primary insistor on that condition" to work with him. He says that if he becomes her husband, his future will be " steeped in glory and success" and he promises to give her three days to make up her mind.
