Back at the inn, Ling is worried about her concubines. She looks around for signs of her lover, but can't find him. She goes back to the alley to look for a beggar, but finds no one there. Ling goes to the ground and sniffs the smell of blood, but it's too late to find her lover. Ling tries to convince the innkeeper that she's not scared of him, but the innkeeper doesn't believe her. Ling asks the innkeeper to explain what happened, and the innkeeper says that he's a martial artist, so he knows how to fight. Ling wonders if she may have run away on her own, and he wonders how she could have returned when she was captured by someone.
