The narrator is sitting in his apartment, reading a book, when he hears the sound of someone approaching. It's Sam, and he's worried about what's going on between his brother, Henry, and his sister-in-law, Teta-mori. He's also worried about his sister, because she's the one who's been abandoned by her husband. He tries to get her to tell him why, but she doesn't want him to tell her. He tells her that he'll take Henry home to celebrate his father's birthday.
