About This Chapter
Back at school, the narrator asks Sam if he has a cold. Sam replies that he does, but that it's hard for him to talk when his throat is "dry" . He tells the narrator that he's been nice to everyone since they were in school, but now that he mentions Henry, he suddenly looks "heavily foreboding." Sam asks why, and the narrator answers that he wants to know what happened the night he ran off with Henry. He asks why Sam doesn't let Henry go, and Sam says he'd appreciate it if he didn't have to spell out his feelings for Henry. Sam tells him that he likes Henry, and he asks why he hasn't gone home early. Sam says that he has plans to go see Henry, but he feels bad about not being able to go. He wants to kiss him, he says, and then he asks if Henry knows about it. The narrator says that it would be "fun" to tell him straight out, but then he says that maybe he'll learn Henry's secret.
