About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Hu Jintao's uncle, Cai Yunfu, is killed by his nephew, Xinhua, in the southwestern province. The uncle's death is the result of a long-running feud between the uncle and his son-in-law, Cai Lingyu, who is now the governor of Guizhou Province. Xinhua reports that Cai Mingyu, the younger son of the uncle, has gone to the prison to tell the governor that his uncle has committed suicide. The narrator tells us that the uncle had been caring for Cai Yunyu for the rest of his life, and that his death was caused by the fact that he had not listened to him. He also says that Cai Yunous has never cared for Cai Lingyunyu, but that he has not cared for Xinhua either. He tells the narrator that he should not have forced the uncle to reconcile with Xinhua because Xinhua is his man. He says that if he had acted like a "reckless lovestruck man," Xinhua would not have killed himself and Xinhua could have avoided his fate. He asks the narrator why he is so mad, and the narrator replies that he does not care about the life of Xinhua. He points out that Xinhua's only relative, Cai Minyu, died because of his love for the uncle. He then tells the audience that he was planning to kill Xinhua a long time before, but he has lost his mind, and now he has had his way.
