In this chapter, we learn that Sinian's power to control the flow of water has come from the demon god. Sinian is horrified to discover that all of his land has been destroyed, and that the black sun has been cast into the sea. He is also horrified to learn that the waves have turned the red ball into the sun, and the blue ball into all of the beings, including Sinian and himself. He also learns that the color of the balls in the hole is a symbol of creation, and therefore a message to the other beings in the universe. He wonders if the message is a message from the gods to the rest of the universe, and wonders if this is the message that they should receive from the creation of the world. He curses Sinian for being a "shadow slave" to him.
