The next morning, Dr. Manette rushes in to see what's going on. He's worried that the baby is going to die before it's even born. He tells her to hold off on taking the baby until after the baby's been born, because he doesn't want the baby to die in the womb. He also tells her that he's not the father of the baby, so he can't be responsible for its fate. He says that he just wants to make sure the baby survives.
