They're so excited that they stay up all night to make a giant snake out of a bowl of wood they brought back from school. Everyone is so happy that they can't wait to show their dad how awesome they are at this art form. One girl wonders why her dad is so excited, and she tells him that he just shaved his hair and decided to become a monk. He's just as good at carving as she is, she says, and that's all he needs to do. She tells her dad that this carving is his "pettish motion machine" for the poor, and if he can touch it, he'll give it to her. She also tells her father that she's made a bunch of "wet trash" out of the wood they've been working on, and the other girls call it their "crafty trash" . She says that she was beaten up by her classmates because she wanted to carve something that didn't have anything to do with their class.
