About This Chapter
Ten years ago, a "psychopathic murderer" murdered seven children and committed suicide. The police finally identified the murderer as a middle-aged man, but he committed suicide before they could bring him to justice. The girl who saw the woman weeping on the roadside was walking home when she passed by the crime scene. She saw the girl comfort the woman, and the girl walked up to her to comfort her. The woman's body was buried next to a tree, and over time, the roots of that tree fused with the girl's own body, creating a "ghost" of the girl. When the girl is asked why she is afraid of stories, her mother tells her that the girl was scared of ghosts when she was very young, and that she has been especially scared of the dark since then. When she was four or five years old, she was frightened by the power going out in the house, and she cries when the lights go out. Her mother tells the girl that her father has done some stupid things, but she does not need to tell her.
