About This Chapter
In this chapter, the young narrator is introduced to the world of the twenty-first century. He is a member of a new generation of young people who have come of age in the "first century" . The narrator tells us that he has a part-time job after class and that he does not want to go to a party because he is afraid of getting into a fight. He asks the other young people at the party if they would like to hang out with him after work. They all agree that they would do so. The young narrator tells the other men that the party is free and that it is owned by a friend of his father's. He tells them that he bought some snacks and that they should order whatever they want. He then tells the young men that there is a woman inside the club and that she is taller than him. He says that she looks like her father and that her father is probably a "petty" man who is just doing a job. He also tells the men that if they want to degrade someone, they should start with their clothes. He adds that he will ask to be added to the wechat and then he will show off his vacation abroad.
