In this chapter, the two young lovers discuss the events of the previous day. They both know that they are in a bind and that they have to choose between the two of them. They decide that the meeting they had the day before was a trick. The next day, however, they find themselves confined in their own homes. They have forbidden all communication with each other, and they have lost all hope of ever seeing each other again. They ask each other to meet them one last time so that they can settle their differences. The young lovers agree that it is a pity that they did not pass the test of love.
