About This Chapter
The scene opens on a cattle farm in Henan province, where a young man named Xiaodong is preparing to participate in a publicity stunt. The young man, who has been working in the cattle business for many years, has been disqualified from the event because of his "dressing style." The man's father, Mr. Cai, is also in the act, and he introduces himself as Cai's "long lost brother." He tells the young man that he has been preparing for the event for a while, but he cannot find a way out of the cattle farm. He tells him that he will be in touch with him later, and they will be able to help him get back on his feet. The man then tells the boy that he was once the younger brother of a woman's sister, and that he had enjoyed playing with him on the swings until one day, when his father brought him along. When the boy discovered that his sister was his mother's younger sister, he was torn between wanting to play the swings with him and not wanting to be related to her. He says he has grown up and is no longer interested in such childish things.
