The Underground Man explains that he killed his own family because his father was a "gay" man who was having an affair with a "secret lover" . He tells the Underground Man that he would have divorced his father if it weren't for the fact that his parents had gotten married because his mother was pregnant, but his father had been cheating on her. He says that if he hadn't been born with sin, he wouldn't have had a family. He explains that some children were "born to be loved" and some were born with "sin" , and that they have to live with it for the rest of their lives. He wants to go to the police and tell them what happened, but he can't because he's been hiding for so long. He's going to go with the police to the station tomorrow, and he asks if he'll have to wait for him there. He doesn't know if he should wait for the police or not, so he decides to send away the only person who is willing to stay with him for the night.
