It is late autumn, and it is past 11:00pm already. The wind is cool, the air is warm, and the smell of "snift" and "smokin" is everywhere. The narrator tells us that he is leaving his job at the shop. He says that he will start off once he gets to the shop, but that he does not want to tell anyone where he is going. He tells the narrator that he can leave the shop without any reason, but he is an "unvanquished" person. He puts his uniform on a shelf and says that if his next employee is the same as him, he will take his uniform from there. He asks the narrator if he has any feelings for the shop and if he is really leaving. He shakes his head and says he needs him.
