In this chapter, we learn that the young woman we met earlier in the story is now the mother of a baby girl. We learn that she is pregnant, and that she has come to live with her in the city. We also learn that her father has been killed in a car accident, and she has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The young woman, however, is not concerned about her father's death; she is more concerned with her daughter's well-being.
