About This Chapter
It's been a while since we've heard from the director, and now he's back in his room. He's still moping about how his girlfriend is sleeping, and he can't figure out why she's not waking him up. He thinks maybe it's because he has a sachet of holy water in her room, or maybe she just doesn't want to wake him up, or whatever. He tries to figure out what's going on, but she keeps her secret, and then he starts to get frustrated. He tells the director that he wants to be a writer, and the director says that's what he wanted to do all along, but he never got the chance to do it. The director tells him that his dad always told him that he'd know what he really wanted only after he was "desperate" , and that courage was necessary to make that choice. The scene ends with the director asking the young writer what he wants him to do. The young writer says that he just wants to write a great screenplay, and make his debut as a writer. He hopes that the director will smile at him and smile at the stars, too. He asks the director to come back the next day, but the director won't come back. He wants to go back to the monastery, where he knows the monk's personality well. He says that if the monk is hot and angry, then he'll go home, and if he is angry and hot, then the monk will go home. The two of them are going to have to pay for this, he says, because they're just trying to make fun of him.
