About This Chapter
It's been a while since we've heard from Jim, but he's got something to tell the director. He's a little worried that the embroidery on the sachet belongs to the royal family, since it's from the same period as the embroidery used by the dukes and duchesses. Jim's not sure what to do with this information, since he doesn't really know what the director wants to hear. He tells the director that his secretary has something important to say, and he'd like to hear more about her background, education, and her work. Jim says that he thought the secretary was from a "good family" , and that she was beautiful, but that she's "full of herself" . He says that his grandmother probably wouldn't have left a sachet in a family like that, since she'd never leave it to someone like that. He also says that the secretary's words are false, since they're all true, but they've all been fabricated to fool the enemy. Jim can't believe that the director would want to listen to his secretary, who's so full of herself. He thinks that he can trust the director to follow him, since his grandmother would never leave a sachet like that in such a family. Finally, he asks the director not to mention her name, since "just thinking about her" makes him shudder. Jim is in a terrible mood, and the embroidery looks like a letter or an image. He wonders if this is the real
