This chapter opens with Ling'er's reaction to her sister's refusal to help her and her family. She is shocked to learn that her biological sister would not mistreat her, and she is angry that her sister is not planning to help them. She tells her sister that she is dead to her and that she cannot believe that she would think that. She goes out to take a break, and when she returns, she finds that her brother has gone overboard, and that he is using a trick to fool her.
