The fire looks really bad, and the two of them decide to jump out of the window. They're not sure if they're going to make it out alive, but they decide to anyway. The narrator tells us that it's illegal for a man to be so cool. He also says that the guy who saved him the last time he was in love with her was the same guy who helped him escape from the fire in the old inn. He says that if he had known that things would get this bad, he would have stayed in the inn and not helped her escape. He tells her that he's dragging her down to get revenge on someone who tried to kill him the day before.
