The next morning, Zbigniew finds himself in the middle of a conversation with the Governess. The Governess tells him that she has found the woman he was looking for, and that she will take her to the house of the old woman. He tells her that he has found her, and she is shocked to learn that he is still looking for her. She realizes that he must have found her while she was asleep, and wonders why he did not find her earlier. She tells him to forget about her and to apply the medicine to her for an hour every day for a month. He finds out that she is awake, and he realizes that she went into the house to save others, but instead she is the one who has been saved. He realizes that it is time to slaughter the rats in the sewers. He worries that the family has already left the city. He decides that he will kill the young woman, and then he will leave her to die.
