When pei returns, he asks if Miss Quinin has finished all of her tasks. She replies that she has promised him part of the profits as well. pei tells her that while he was away, there was something abnormal happening in the city. He says that he heard his father mention something, and that many people came to court to say that their daughters had disappeared. He asks if he can pay attention to the cases and find out if there is someone behind all of these disappearances, and she says that she is interested in the cases because everyone is born with a human nature. She says that if she had not been at the brothel when she was almost sold, she would have been one of these missing girls. She tells pei that everyone is "born human" and that everyone's fate is controlled by another. She asks him if he has ever thought about this, and he replies that he has never thought about it before. He gives her the fan that he always carries by his side, and asks her if she wants to read official documents with it. She thanks him, and they go back to business.
