Zhuge, the young master, arrives at the inn and asks if there are any women or men staying there. The innkeeper tells him that there are, and Zhuge asks if it is forbidden to sell the land to him. He then asks if the land has anything to do with a person who is dying. The young master then tells the innkeeper that the man selling the land is not able to pay his gambling debts, and is taking the land out of his wife's hands. Zhuge begs the innkeeper to give him the money, but the innkeeper refuses, saying that he has never married a woman with such bad luck as Zhuge. He tells Zhuge that if he had not married her, he would not have lost so much money, and that he would never have married her with such a bad luck. He asks the innkeeper if there is still land they can sell, and the innkeeper says that there is, but that the owner of the land needs to sell his wife to pay off the gambling debts. The old man then offers the old man the idea of selling his wife for the money he owes to the gambling house. He promises that once he wins, he will bring Zhuge back to a good life, and then Zhuge promises to bring him back to the good life. When the innkeeper realizes that this is not the case, he curses the woman and threatens to beat her to death.
