In this chapter, we learn that the two of them have been invited to perform at a gala concert in honor of the winners of the recent Tachibana Music Competition. The two are overjoyed at the opportunity to play together, and they are eager to prove that they are the best duo in the history of the competition. They are also eager to show that they can play the same piece at the gala concert as they did at the competition two years earlier. They feel that they will be able to stand out from the crowd because they are so modest in their tastes. They also feel that the competition has been a failure because it has been so long since they last played together. They wonder how they have come to be so small and so insignificant, and how they are able to play so well together.
