About This Chapter
"The End of the Term" The narrator tells us that he's not going to fail. He's going to visit his parents. He asks his dad if he'll bring his sister and niece with him. The narrator is excited to meet his family. He tells his dad that his mom has a "major sweet tooth" , which means she likes sweets from the west. The father is psyched to meet the family, and he tells the narrator to come sit with them. He says that his daughter is the older of the two girls, and she's holding it "at a nice angle." The narrator says that he doesn't realize how gentle his daughter's face is, but he swears that she sneezes "at the strangest times." The father says that the baby looks more like him than his daughter, and the narrator says he looks like a newlywed father. The dad says that this is the "last man" that he has ever known, and that the narrator should tell him something about the day that he lost his father. He goes on to say that he hasn't seen his wife since she divorced him a long while ago. He also says that it's hard to make a family when you're not used to it, because "making a family" is a "new life" .
