This is a locked chapterChapter 60 Waging Everything God in creating Man somewhat overestimated his ability.
About This Chapter
The chapter ends with a soliloquy by Mcpherson in which he tells the reader that he will not lose in order to "live up to the Sergeant's expectations" . He says that if the creature can't evade his attacks, then she's "backed into a corner" , and that she'll be wounded and lose her strength if it comes to this. He's sure that the creature's next move will be to "crack" him, so he can see everything he needs to know. He wonders how long it will take the creature to chase him, and wonders if the creatures are using him as a "worldly substance" to evolve into humans. He asks if he's forgotten his orders to capture the creature alive, and he says that he'll kill the creature if he has to. He thinks that if he were a comrade, he'd be able to use his "power is one sorry creature two and sub or they're damned both left ." He wonders if it would have been better if he had been a friend instead of a soldier, and then he realizes that he was almost shot at by the creature.
